Late Summer

Here are a couple photos we took near the park on one of our weekend bike rides; typical scenes from late summer.  I'm just a little behind on my blogging. (-:

I'm With Cardy

Last weekend was Homecoming at our University.  The theme this year was The Cardy Party-picking up on the fact that this is an election year and encouraging everyone to support our mascot Cardy.  It was probably the best homecoming celebration we have ever had. The students were out in force with colorful floats for the parade and lots of school spirit to cheer on our football team who won their game. Alumni from way back attended reunions and participated in the festivities.  Lingering rain cleared out by 8 am and the day ended up being beautiful weatherwise.  I worked, as usual, photographing the event for Alumni Relations; Andrew and Elisha joined me for the alumni luncheon. Daisy just posed for a picture.  She's getting too old for all the excitement of the parade and carnival afterward. By the way-the reason I don't have my camera in any of these pictures is because someone else was using it to take the photos with me/us in them. LOL

More Stupidity

These two New Zealand red girls were dumped off at a park near our house. Witnesses said a guy drove up and dumped them, kicked one of them, and drove off.  I will never understand this type of behavior or how people that harm other living beings in a malicious way can live with themselves. The smaller doe (front) has nasty attack wounds (that are several days old) including a torn eyelid, on the side you can't see but she should be alright as I have treated her with penicillin and antibiotic ointment. The larger doe is remarkably good natured considering what they just went through.  They are both living in separate cages in our shed for at least 10 days and I am careful not to contaminated my animals in case these might have a not yet evident illness.

Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man. - Arthur Schopenhauer (German Philosopher)

Busy Girl

Our Pip was a busy girl last evening. First she came out for supper, then she helped Andrew prune the tall sunflowers that he mentioned yesterday were in need, then she groomed herself and then she plopped down on the nest that she dug out a couple days ago and had a baby while Andrew took some photos.
