Windy Gap

Windy Gap Wildlife Viewing Area is located on Route 40 near Granby. It is a breeding/nesting ground for pelicans, bald and golden eagles and a variety of other waterfowl.

What Not to Do While Vacationing in a National Park

Do pose nicely in front of the signage in the park.

Do photograph the 1200 pound bull moose from a safe distance.

Don't approach the 1200 pound bull moose so as to give it a chance to gore you to death. Do I need to explain this one? The sheriff finally came and told these idiots to get back on the side of the road.

Green Mountain Trail

Andrew's sister celebrated her birthday in Colorado by taking us all on a hike on the Green Mountain trail. Little did we know what surprises were in store for us that day.
The die hard hikers ready to go. Me & Mom, Elisha, Andrew & Amy.

Surprise # 1- Beautiful calypso orchids

Looking up at the sky.

A mountain waterfall.

Surprise # 2-A Gray Jay gets friendly with me.

Andrew found a striped chorus frog found in the marsh. After he and his sister took off their shoes in order to wade out and get a better look...

out came surprise # 3 in the form of a female moose...

...who did not look at all excited to see us humans invading her space.

Trail Ridge Road

We almost didn't make it to the Wool Market in Estes Park. From our condo in Frasier we took Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park to Estes Park on the other side. Although its only about 25 miles there is way too much to see along the way.

Here's Andrew getting a better view of a moose

Mama moose and her calf made a rare appearance on the roadside.

This big guy was grazing along the Colorado River.

The first week of June there was a huge snowfall. Elisha and I pose in front of what remains.

In the alpine area the Never Summer Mountain range shimmered in the sunlight.

A friendly little marmot posed for Andrew in hopes of getting a treat.
(He didn't.)

Estes Park Wool Market

I just got back from a trip to Colorado which included stopping at the annual Wool Market in the town of Estes Park, located at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. The fiber event, although smaller than others that I have attended in regard to the number of vendors, was very nice. The vendors that had displays showed quality items and there was an interesting array of livestock including sheep, paco vicunas, llamas, alpacas, yaks and angora rabbits. For those of you who are familiar with the Maggie Sefton mystery novels featuring the yarn shop Lambspun and knitter/detective Kelly Flynn; I met the woman for whom the character Mimi in the book is based upon. Here is a link to some additional photos for those of you who want to see more. I will be sharing some other photos of my trip throughout the upcoming week so stayed tuned. Colorado is a beautiful state!

Welcome to the Wool Market

Visitors admiring artwork of sheep.

Lambspun's booth

View of the outdoor tents. Look at that sky!

Paco vicuna items.

Cute little guys aren't they?

French Angora rabbits too...

A stunning handmade vest.

Lots of roving and yarn.

When we got there the inside tent was so crowded you could hardly move.

BFL/Satin Angora Roving

I got my roving back from Stonehedge yesterday. You might recall that I mentioned in a previous post having sent in BFL and Satin angora. I was really pleased with the way it turned out. This is a 30% angora, 70% BFL blend. In the right light there is just a hint of red from the chocolate agouti and red colored Satin fiber. It is very soft.

An App for That

My cell phone was long overdue for an upgrade and I have been wanting an i-Phone since they arrived but was not about to pay the high price tag. Since Apple just release a new and "better" i-Phone they dropped the price way down and so I went for it. As the commercial says there is an app for everything...it even takes decent photos. I hate the Apple store at Easton because it is always a mob scene and was pleasantly surprised when we got in and out in around a half hour.
