Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

We made our traditional Saturday after Thanksgiving trip to the Scott Antique show at the Expo Center today. This year it was really crowded and really hot so we didn't stay long and we didn't buy anything. I had also made an appointment to take the Vue into the dealer so that is where we spent the majority of the afternoon. As I mentioned in yesterday's post the transmission on the Vue blew while we were on 71 driving home from Andrew's mom and dad's. Turns out the 2002-2005 Vue's have a VTI transmission with an extremely high failure rate that has been documented. There is currently a class action lawsuit in progress on behalf of the owners who paid out to replace the faulty transmissions. All unbeknownst to us until yesterday. While at the dealer we learned that in 2006 they replaced the VTI's. Long story made short rather than spending $4K on a transmission repair we traded the car. Our new one, also a Saturn Vue but a 2006 model, has a Honda engine, leather interior, and heated seats along with a 100.000 mile power train warranty!! They basically paid half the $4K with the deal we got. We have been pleased with our Saturn dealer; this is our fourth purchase. Although I am not pleased about the transmission situation I feel like the deal we arrived upon was much more productive than getting involved in a lawsuit, being all frustrated, and turning the process into a long drawn out drama.

I'm glad you got your car problems resolved so (relatively) easily! This summer our Avalon caught on FIRE on the way back from Columbus to Cincinnati. We finally made it home at 3 am in the cab of the tow truck. We bought an old BMW from a friend of ours for $1000 as a stopgap measure, but we still haven't replaced the car yet.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

I like the new car! Glad you got it worked out relatively painlessly, too.
