Wood Frogs 2011

Last year the wood frogs were doin' their thing on March 12th. It was warmer this year and today they were at it again. This afternoon we actually sat quietly in the vernal pool and after a period of time they decided we weren't out to get them and they swam in all around us and vocalized and mated. Their calls, which sound like a quack, were amazing. Be sure to view the short video at the end of this post, that Andrew filmed, so you can hear the sound we heard; it went on for hours.

Enjoyed the video/sound!!!!!! Hope 'Springs' eternal!

We've been super anxious for our chorus of spring frogs but it's simply been 'too cold'! The weather forecasters say that we'll be in the 50' this week so maybe we'll have frog concert some evening? Keep your fingers crossed for us! :- D

That is so COOL! I would never have thought of getting in the water with them and observing them that way. You guys do the coolest things!

Thanks for sharing with the rest of us. My husband wouldn't get in a pond if his pants were on fire.
