Fledgling Fiasco

I hate to say it but baby robins are the epitome of a face that only a mother could love. Andrew said I wasn't being nice when I referred to them as "ugly". So the other night we are going for our walk with Daisy and Andrew decides to check on the nest of baby robins that is in the elbow of the downspout by our garage door. Evidently he got a little too close for comfort and a baby jumped out and sort of flapped to the ground. Andrew thought he was going to easily catch it...not. That little fart ran all over the flower bed and into the neighbors yard and Andrew was determined to put it back in the nest so he chased it. Mother and father robin were none too happy about this and they started dive bombing me as I stood and watched the pursuit. So much for being an innocent bystander-I had to run for cover or risk a scalp pecking. Anyway Andrew finally got the baby bird and was basically thrilled with himself for having managed to "capture" it. The air raid by mother and father robin had ceased by this point in time and the aftermath was reduced to shrill scolding from the safety of a nearby tree branch. Here's the kicker-as Andrew reached to put baby bird back in the nest other 3 babies scattered to the ground and ran every which way and mother and father robin commenced attacking all over again. We laughed so hard our sides ached. I know that we could have won the grand prize on Funniest Home Videos if someone had been on hand to capture this. Here they are -the little devils
This is a close up of it's beak. Yuck. LOL

*lol* I can just see it! We had a robin family nest on top of our porch a few years ago. We enjoyed hosting them (despite the insane mess they made,) and we were used to ugly baby birds by then, having had an aviary full of finches...anyways, one night, the fledglings got startled, and the whole family jumped out at the same time. With the help of our neighbor's, we managed to herd them all across the road into the bushes where their parents were waiting.
It's too bad you didn't have a video camera on! *grins*
