Andrew's dad monitors a bluebird trail for the Erie County Park District. Nephew James loves to help count baby bluebirds. James invited me along with them last week. Nothing cuter than watching kids discovering nature.

Bluebirds like to nest on the"edge"; areas of field on the edge of the woods.

They make square nests out of grasses

Baby bluebirds

James (and Grandpa holding the tiny birds). Grandpa tells me 50 blue birds have fledged this summer. That's triple last summer's count. Bluebirds are heavily preyed upon by other birds and animals such as snakes. Fifty young is an impressive count.

It's nice to see a child spending time with a grandparent, and with nature.
