Whitefish Point Up North Part 5

It was a tad windy on the north shore; you can tell by our attire (our trusty Frogg Toggs) and the fact that Daisy's ears are blowing around her head. The sky here is always an amazing shade of blue and I could pick rocks along the north shore for days.
Whitefish Point lighthouse.Us on the point.
Little Daisy loving every minute of it.
The gales of August.
Look at the waves lapping the bow of the Interlake freighter Mesabi Miner upbound from the Soo. This is a huge 1000 foot vessel; one of the largest on the great lakes.
Andrew doing some beach combing...
...and rock picking for the elusive agates found here. We managed to scrounge up three.

Another shot of Andrew with the Mesabi Miner in the background.
Me and Daisy. I had to carry her part way because the sand was blowing in her face along the beach.

Looks like you were very close to the nesting site of the piping plovers we had gracing the beach this year! They successfully fledged four chicks- this is the second year in a row they came back to this historic nesting site...the previous most recent nesting attempt was in the mid 1980's.
